Armed Forces Standard & Enhanced Learning Credits (EHC) Scheme
What is ELC Funding?
The MOD's Enhanced Learning Credits Scheme (ELC) promotes lifelong learning amongst members of the Armed Forces. The scheme provides financial support in each of a maximum of three separate years for higher level learning of a nationally recognised qualification at Level 3 or above. Or Standard Learning Credits (SLC) reimburse up to £175 to pay for any qualification, which can be used every year.
Who is eligible?
ELC Funding is available for regular or ex-regular armed forces personnel. There are two tiers based on length of service:
- Lower Tier: up to £1,000 per year for those with 4 or more years eligible service.
- Upper Tier: up to £2,000 per year for those with 8 or more years eligible service.
- Courses must be Level 3 or above, and must be nationally recognised (Ofqual accredited).
3 separate claims can be made in 3 years, which need not be consecutive, meaning ELCs are worth up to £6,000.
Reserve and regular personnel are also entitled to apply for Standard Learning Credits (SLC) once every year:
- SLCs can reimburse up to 80% of the total cost of a course, up to a maximum of £175.
- The course must have substantial developmental value and directly benefit the Service.
- SLC must be applied for before paying for a course, and can then be refunded upon completion of the course.
For example, this could bring our 3 day First Aid At Work course down to just £74.00 (exc VAT).
